Walter Elias "Walt" Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American entrepreneur, animator, voice actor and film producer. A pioneer of the American animation industry, he introduced several developments in the production of cartoons. As a film producer, Disney holds the record for most Academy Awards earned by an individual, having won 22 Oscars from 59 nominations. He was presented with two Golden Globe Special Achievement Awards and an Emmy Award, among other honors. Several of his films are included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
Walt Disney was born Dec 5, 1901 Chicago,Illinois. He was the fourth of the five children. When he was five, the family moved to Missouri. There Walt's father bought a house and a 45-arce farm. There was a huge playground to Walt. He stroll all over the farm. He played in the mud and herded the pigs. He learned to watch for the animals in the woods. When he was six, he used his hand to do art for the first time. When his younger sister and him were at home by their self, Walt painted a picture of a pig made of tar on the side of the house. His aunt, Aunt Maggie, brought pencil and paper for Walt to use. Walt's mother taught him to read at home and when he was seven, he began school. Walt was a good student. He found things more interesting than his schoolwork and couldn't keep his mind on work. When Walt was eight his family moved to Kansas City. He lived on the farm for four years. Walt and his older brother Roy had to wake up at 3:30 and deliver 700 newspaper. When he was done with his route he went to school and he tried harder. He told himself to pay attention in class. His teachers keep telling him that he was slow. He had a learning disability.His best friend was Walter Pfeiffer and his family loved shows and movies. The two boys created their own show. Walt was a very poor student, but he took art classes and he loved to draw cartoons.
When Walt was 16, he wanted join the army for World War I. but he was too young. The Red Cross took people who were 17, so he lied about his age and quite school. He returned to US a year later and got a job that paid him $50 a month and the job didn't last long. He started working at a film ad company and the ads were shown at movie theaters. The salary was $40 a week. Every year he made $2085.716. He was 19 years old and already making big money! It was slow working making the early cartoons. First, a figure was cut out of paper.It was then put on a background and the photo was taken. Then, the position of the figure was changed a little. Another photo was taken. This process repeated over and over again. From this, a simple kind of movement was shown on the screen. It did not look very real. Walt drew a picture of a boy next to a ball and he made it touch the ball and Walt knows the secret of animation.
In 1923, Disney moved to Hollywood and he and his brother Roy became partners. Walt began making cartoons day and night. The first series was Alice in Cartoon-land. Disney hired Lilly Bounds in 1925. They fell in love in the same year. In 1927, Disney came up with a new cartoon star. It was a Rabbit with long ears named Oswald. He was making two or three cartoons a month. Later that year, Disney created Mortimer and Lilly told him to name the mouse Mickey mouse. The first two Mickey mouse had no sound so Walt made the first sound in history . Mickey Mouse became a star! Soon Mickey Mouse was known around the world. He thought of Minnie Mouse Donald Duck and Goofy. He never ran out of ideas.IN 1931, The first particular color film was invented. It was called Technicolor. Flowers and Trees was the first color cartoon. IT was a huge hit. The Walt Disney won an Academy Award for the film that year and also won second Academy Award for Micky Mouse.He started making shows that weren't cartoon. In 1954, He tried television. The Wonderful World of Disney showed on Sunday evenings. On July 18, 1957, Walt Disney opened Disneyland. It was the most successful amusement park in history. In 1965, He was given the highest honor American can get. President Johnson awarded him the presidential Medal Of Freedom. He died o December 15, 1966. in November of 1966, he went to the doctors for a check up and he found out he had a serious lung problem. He died at age 65. When he died, a large portion of his estate went to Carl Arts. More theme parks opened after his death. In 1971, Walt Disney World Resort opened in Orlando, Florida. Since then, Disney parks have been opened in Tokyo and Paris. Walt Disney created a vast empire. He won the respect of many. Everyone knew his name. But he will always be remembered most as the man who created Micky Mouse.
